I have been the Lead Pastor at Emmanuel since 2011. My passion is to help people understand and apply biblical truth to everyday life. I also enjoy teaching about spiritual disciplines and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ domestically and in other countries through short-term mission trips. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Bible & Pastoral Ministry from TTU/Piedmont International University, a Master’s of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and am finishing a Ph.D. degree in Preaching and Leadership from Southeastern. It is a joy and privilege to minister alongside my beautiful wife Connie who has a passion for women’s discipleship and a heart for hospitality. We have two sons, James and Luke. For fun, I enjoy watching a variety of sports and playing basketball and tennis.

I have been Worship Pastor at Emmanuel since December 2009. My desire in ministry is that people would come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and grow deeper in love with Him in their daily life. My objective in leading music and worship is that people will sing freely to the Lord, will learn more about Christ through the words and gospel-centered theology found within the songs we sing, and will continue to worship Him throughout the week. I received my undergrad degree in Music from Campbell University and have taken music and theological classes at Southeastern Baptist Theological seminary towards a master’s degree in church music. In addition to music, I enjoy watching Duke basketball and Carolina Hurricanes hockey, spending time with friends, and traveling.  I am married to my beautiful wife Britany.  We met working in Philadelphia, PA for a missions camp, which is a passion we both share.

I began serving at Emmanuel in 2018.  Prior to that I served as a youth pastor at Claycomo Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO (2006-2011) and Green Valley Baptist Church in Saint Joseph, MO (2011-2015).  I received my BA in Political Science from the University of Central Florida and my MDiv from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Later I returned to school completing my master’s in philosophy at Houston Baptist University.  Now, having become a part of Emmanuel’s church family has been an absolute joy and blessing.  My life’s purpose is simply to love God and love people.  As I think about how that looks in my role as pastor of children and youth I am convicted by Samuel’s commitment to God’s people: he vowed to pray for and to teach the people God had given into his care.  He also implored them to fear and worship God with hearts stirred by gratitude.  I strive for that kind of faithfulness.  I am committed to love the youth and children God has given me.  In loving them I pray that they would come to know the source of that love; I pray that Christ would be formed in them, and that they grow to have a mature faith.  I want what I say and do to endear them to God’s word from a young age.  I want to lead them to have a healthy reverence for God and to live lives of worship sustained by thankful hearts.

I have been serving at Emmanuel Baptist Church since October 2016. I received my undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Flagler College and my Masters in Women’s Studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. I have worked previously with another church, a crisis pregnancy center and with NC social services. Growing up as a pastor’s kid, ministry is the only life I have ever known. I love the church and it is my desire to see Christ proclaimed and exalted in everything that we do. I take great pleasure in what I do and working alongside everyone here. When I am not at the church, I enjoy traveling, being friends and family, reading and Florida State football.
